Alamosa, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies faced off against Concordia University Irvine at home on Sunday but fell 23-1 against the Eagles' relentless, fast-paced attack. This marked the second meeting between the teams, with the Grizzlies dropping the first contest 19-2.
CUI wasted no time setting the tone, netting eight goals in the first 10 minutes. Penalty trouble plagued the Grizzlies early, as they surrendered three man-up goals during that stretch. Adams State finally broke through with four minutes left in the first quarter when Malik Maxwell fired in an unassisted goal to make it 8-1. While the Grizzlies tightened up defensively and held the Eagles to no more than five goals per quarter the rest of the way, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Despite generating 19 shot attempts, only 10 were on target for Adams State. Meanwhile, the Eagles kept up the pressure, racking up 61 shots, including 29 on goal.
Goalkeepers Ryan Berger, Jamisen Blackwell and Morgan Reed combined for six saves in the contest.
With the loss, the Grizzlies fall to 0-4 (0-4 RMAC) on the season. They will look to bounce back next week as they hit the road to take on Colorado Mesa and Westminster.
