Adams State Falls to No. 15 Colorado Mesa

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies faced a tough challenge on Thursday evening, traveling to take on the No. 15-ranked Colorado Mesa Mavericks. Despite a determined effort, the Grizzlies fell 22-5 against one of the top offenses in the country.

The Mavericks came out firing, scoring five unanswered goals to open the game. Adams State broke through seven minutes into the first quarter with an up-man goal from Jacob Parsons, but Colorado Mesa kept the pressure on, racking up 11 goals in the opening frame.

The second quarter saw a slight dip in the Mavericks' scoring pace, as they added five more goals. Danny Joy responded for the Grizzlies, finding the net with another up-man goal to keep Adams State on the board.

Adams State put together its strongest stretch in the third quarter. Malik Maxwell scored back-to-back goals, and Joy added his second of the game with another up-man tally. The Grizzlies held Colorado Mesa to just two goals in the quarter, showing grit on both ends of the field.

Despite the strong third-quarter effort, the Grizzlies couldn't close the gap. Colorado Mesa's offense proved too much to contain, handing Adams State a 22-5 loss.

The Grizzlies will look to bounce back Saturday when they travel to Salt Lake City to face Westminster.
