Grizzlies Drop Series to Colorado School of Mines

Golden, Colo. – The Adams State softball team dropped both games of a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader to Colorado School of Mines over the weekend, falling 14–6 and 7–6 to drop the series 0-4.

Game 1: Colorado School of Mines 14, Adams State 6

Adams State couldn't overcome an early surge from Colorado Mines in Game 1, falling 14-6 despite a late push.

The Orediggers jumped out to a quick three-run lead in the first, but the Grizzlies responded with single runs in the second and third to stay within striking distance. However, back-to-back explosive innings from Mines in the fourth and fifth widened the gap and proved too much to overcome.

The Grizzlies showed signs of life in the fifth, plating four runs to chip away at the deficit, but the damage had already been done.

Raegan Johnson crossed the plate twice after drawing three walks, while Sydney Rodriguez turned in a 2-for-3 effort with a pair of RBIs. Grace Hendrickson added four RBIs on a single swing, providing a bright spot in the Grizzlies' offense.

Game 2: Colorado School of Mines 7, Adams State 6
Adams State nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback in Game 2, rallying for four runs in the seventh inning before falling just short in a 7-6 loss to Colorado School of Mines.

The Orediggers struck first, pushing across a run in the opening frame. Adams State answered with runs in the third and fourth to briefly take a 2-1 lead, but Mines responded with a three-run bottom of the fourth to swing momentum back their way.

Colorado Mines added four more in the sixth to build a 7-2 cushion, seemingly putting the game out of reach.

But the Grizzlies refused to fold. Caylie Eiguren launched a three-run homer in the seventh, and Mackenzie Simon followed with a solo shot to cut the deficit to one. Despite outhitting the Orediggers 12-8 and playing a clean game defensively, Adams State ran out of time.

With the losses, the Grizzlies dropped to 5-43 on the season, while Colorado School of Mines improved to 17-29.

Adams State returns home next weekend to close out its regular-season slate against Colorado Christian, with the series beginning Friday on an adjusted schedule.
