Adams State Falls to No. 15 Colorado Mesa on Senior Day

Alamosa, Colo. — The Adams State men's lacrosse team continues to battle through a tough season, falling 21-6 to visiting Colorado Mesa on Wednesday afternoon for Senior Day.

Despite a gritty performance from several Grizzlies, the No. 15-ranked Mavericks (9-2, 6-0 RMAC) controlled the pace from the opening whistle, riding a dominant offensive effort and faceoff performance to their sixth straight conference win.

Adams State (0-7, 0-7 RMAC) found the back of the net six times, including a pair of goals from senior Kris Owens. Owens scored in the second quarter and again in the third on a man-up opportunity, recording his second multi-goal game of the season. Jacob Parsons chipped in a goal and two assists, while Alex Wilderboer, Devon Schmidt and Malik Maxwell each added one goal.

Owens was the lone senior honored on Senior Day, coming off a first-team All-RMAC selection last season. The senior from Baltimore has scored five goals so far this season.

Parsons' goal came late in the second quarter off a feed from Danny Joy, cutting the deficit to 9-3 before Colorado Mesa closed the half with another surge.

The Mavericks proved why they're one of the top teams in the region, outshooting Adams State 56-22 and winning 25 of 31 faceoffs.

Goalie Ryan Berger faced a barrage of shots, making nine saves in a full 60-minute effort for the Grizzlies. On the other end, Mesa's goalkeeping duo of Luke Parrish and Grant Brooker combined for four saves.

Adams State will take the weekend off before facing Westminster next Thursday at home for its final game of the season.
