Alamosa, Colo. – In their final game of the regular season, the Adams State baseball team fell 14-5 to Regis University on Saturday afternoon at home. Despite a spirited effort at the plate, the Grizzlies couldn't overcome a potent Regis offense that tallied 19 hits in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
Adams State showed life in the middle innings, cutting a 6-0 deficit in half with a three-run fourth. The Grizzlies tacked on additional runs in the fifth and seventh, but Regis answered each time and pulled away late with a three-run ninth.
Josiah Hall led the way for the Grizzlies, finishing with three RBIs and reaching base twice. Josh Parks added a triple and a double, while Isiah Pruitt collected a hit, a walk and a stolen base.
Adams State found late hope when Macs Carrillo hit a solo shot to left field in the seventh inning, but the Grizzlies were unable to capitalize further, leaving eight runners stranded in the game.
On the mound, Payton Brown got the start and went 4 1/3 innings before giving way to the bullpen. Four relievers saw action, but Regis continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Adams State ends the regular season at 17-33 overall and 13-19 in RMAC play. The Grizzlies now turn their attention to the RMAC Tournament, which opens Wednesday in Grand Junction. They'll look to make a postseason run as the field resets and the stakes rise. Tournament seeding will be announced at a later date as regular season play concludes.
