Grizzly Women Fight Hard but Fall Just Short Against Regis 3-1

ALAMOSA, Colorado — In a back-and-forth match between Adams State and Regis, the Grizzlies Women's Soccer team falls just short against a Regis team that is currently receiving votes in the national poll. The final score of the match was 3-1 and puts the Grizzlies at a record of 4-2-1(0-1-0 RMAC).

To begin the match today, the Grizzlies came out with fire, taking a quick lead in the first half on a goal by Fatso Williams. The goal came at the 12:53 mark in the first half and was William's fifth goal of the season, giving her the team lead through 7 matches. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, Regis gained the momentum in the first half, scoring twice, once at the 21:45 mark and once at the 29:50 mark, to give them a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

During the second half, the Grizzlies had a multitude of scoring opportunities, collecting 10 shots, 4 of which were on goal. Unfortunately for Adams State, they were not able to successfully score on any of these shots, leaving Regis the opportunity to extend their lead in the second half, which they did with a third goal at the 67:52 mark, giving them the final advantage of 3-1.

Overall, today the difference between the two teams was Regis's ability to take advantage of their shots on goal, successfully scoring 3 goals, whereas the Grizzlies struggled to get the ball past the Regis goalie, who saved 5 of the 6 shots on goal the Grizzlies had in the match. Statistically, the match was extremely close as Regis only had one more shot in the match, with the Grizzlies actually collecting more shots on goal than Regis, with the Grizzlies 6 to Regis's 5. The one statistical category Regis had a major edge was in goalie saves. Regis's goalie collected 5 saves in today's match, whereas the Grizzlies' goalie, Ashlyn Bartley, only collected 2 in the 5 chances she had in the match.

Individually, for the Grizzlies, they were led by Fatso Williams, Mia Del Muro, Keira Robertson, and Grace Abbot. Williams was able to score the Grizzlies' only goal in the match, with Robertson collecting the one assist for the Grizzlies on Williams's goal in the first half. Del Muro collected 2 shots, both of which were on goal, but unfortunately, both were saved by Regis's goalie. The final highlight for the Grizzlies was Abbot, who collected 2 shots, of which 1 was on goal and was also saved by the Regis goalie. Ultimately, today's match was an absolute fight by the Grizzlies and is a great example of the potential they have to do special things in the conference this year.

Looking forward to the Grizzlies' next match, they will host Black Hills State University this Sunday, September 28th, at 11 AM MST. The match against Black Hills will be another great conference match for the Grizzlies, as Black Hills is currently 4-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in RMAC play. Come out and support the Grizzly women as they look to go on another winning streak starting this Sunday by taking their first conference win of the season and their fifth win overall.
