Denver, Colo. — No. 16 Adams State dropped its first RMAC season dual to No. 22 Colorado School of Mines, 26-20, at Volk Gymnasium. With wins at five weights, the Grizzlies now stand 2-1 in RMAC duals this season.
At 125 pounds, No. 2 Isaiah Gamez got the Grizzlies on the board with a fall over Jason Goodin at the 4:00 mark.
At 141 pounds, Kieran Thompson claimed a three-point decision in a bout that started slowly. After scoring just one point in the first period, Thompson added a takedown in each of the final two periods, along with an escape, to secure the win.
At 157 pounds, No. 3 Aaden Valdez earned a major decision over Brandon Cody, dominating the match and holding his opponent scoreless.
At 164 pounds, Malachi Rider also recorded a major decision, defeating Marcus Caro, 14–3. Rider scored four takedowns and allowed points only on escapes.
The final points for the Grizzlies came at 197 pounds, where Ben Tonnessen secured a 10–5 decision. Tonnessen scored a two-point near fall in the first period but was unable to capitalize for the fall.
Adams State travels to Chadron State on Saturday to face the No. 17-ranked Eagles at 2 p.m.
