Los Lunas, N.M. – Adams State Softball opened its 2026 season Friday at the Los Lunas Tournament, hosted by Western New Mexico, dropping a pair of games.
The Grizzlies fell just short in the opener, suffering a 9-8 heartbreaker against Western New Mexico before dropping game two, 11-0, to West Texas A&M.
Adams State and Western New Mexico traded runs throughout the first game, with the Grizzlies holding the lead for much of the contest. The Mustangs mounted a late push that proved too much, as Adams State suffered a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Scoring started early for the Grizzlies, as Caylie Eiguren drove in a run with an RBI single in the first inning. Adams State added five more in the third, highlighted by a two-run home run from Mackenzie Simon to take a 6-0 lead.

Despite the late insurance run, the Mustangs rallied in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a walk-off home run to secure the 9-8 win.
In game two, West Texas A&M jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to an 11-0 victory. The Grizzlies worked hard at the plate and in the field, securing two hits, but couldn't overcome the Buffaloes' early momentum.
The Grizzlies threw three pitchers who struck out five batters in the five inning contest. Jaklynn Harteker took the loss for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies will continue action at the Los Lunas Tournament this tomorrow as they face Sul Ross State and UT Permian Basin.
