Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State wrestling team turned in a dominant performance Wednesday night, defeating New Mexico Highlands 36-7 in their final home dual of the 2025-26 season.
The Grizzlies won eight of the 10 contested bouts and earned six bonus-point victories to pull away early and never look back.
No. 2-ranked Isaiah Gamez set the tone at 125 pounds, earning a 6-0 decision over Diego Camarillo to give Adams State an early lead. Jakob Romero followed at 133 with a commanding 15-2 major decision, and Kieran Thompson kept the momentum rolling at 141 with an 11-2 major decision.
Angel Flores delivered the third bonus-point win of the night at 149, scoring an 18-3 technical fall in 4:34. Aaden Valdez added to the surge at 157, pinning Reed McCarty at the 3:55 mark to extend the Grizzlies' advantage. Valdez secured the only fall of the match for the Grizzlies.
New Mexico Highlands picked up its lone contested win at 165, where Ivan Smith Jr. earned a major decision over Royce Uhrig. Adams State quickly responded, however, with Levi Deaguero receiving a forfeit at 174 for 6 team points.
Mahkyi Smith returned the Grizzlies to the bonus-point column at 184 with an 11-0 major decision. Ben Tonnessen followed at 197 with a 10-2 major decision to close out scoring for the Grizzlies.
Adams State closed out the dual season with a 36-7 team victory, carrying momentum into the postseason after its strongest dual campaign in recent years. The reserves will head to Western Colorado on Sunday to compete at the Rocky Mountain Open.
