Adams State Men's Basketball Claims Fifth Seed Going into RMAC Championships

PUEBLO, Colorado — In the Grizzlies final regular season game before the RMAC tournament, Adams State fell to CSU Pueblo by a final score of 70-68. The loss puts the Grizzlies at a record of 18-10(12-8 RMAC) to close the regular season as they gear up for the start of the playoffs. With a final record of 12-8 in conference play, the Grizzlies have secured the fifth seed going into the RMAC tournament as they gear up to go on a playoff run and continue playing as long as possible. 

Diving into today's game, the Grizzlies and the CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves played as close of a game as you can with CSU Pueblo barely taking the game with a game-winning 2-point shot with 2 seconds left in the game. Ultimately, the difference in today's game was CSU Pueblo's offensive efficiency in the second half compared to the Grizzlies. In the second half, the Grizzlies were only able to shoot 40% from the floor whereas the Thunderwolves finished at a 51.7% shoot percentage from the floor. With this extra efficiency, CSU Pueblo was able to outscore Adams State 40-35 to give them the 70-68 win. 

Overall, the Grizzlies finished the day shooting 18 for 45 from the floor for a 40% field goal percentage, while going 8-20 from behind the 3-point line, and 24-33 from the free throw line. For CSU Pueblo, they finished the day 27-60 from the floor, while going 8-28 from the 3-point line, and 8-13 from the free throw line. At the end of the day, the Grizzlies were more efficient from the free throw line and the 3-point line but overall CSU Pueblo recorded 15 more shots, and had 9 more makes leading to them taking the game. 

On the defensive end of the ball, the Grizzlies forced 8 CSU Pueblo turnovers while collecting 2 steals and 2 blocks on the day. With these turnovers, the Grizzlies were able to score 10 points off of turnovers, along with scoring 15 fast break points through their defensive pressure and consistent speed to get out on the break. 

Individually for the Grizzlies, they were led by Wyatt Helming, Luke Williams, and Dillan Baker. The three men all scored double-digits, with Williams leading the way with 19. Williams finished the day 5 for 14 from the floor, 1 for 3 from the 3-point line, and 8 for 12 from the free throw line. Following Williams was Helming and Baker who scored 17 and 15 points respectively. Helming had himself an extremely efficient night as he finished 4 for 8 from the floor, 2 for 4 from the 3-point line, and 7 for 7 from the free throw line. For Baker, he finished 6 for 10 from the floor, while making 3 of 6 3-pointers to collect his 15 points. Between the three men they combined for 51 of the Grizzlies 68 points. They also combined for 13 rebounds and 7 assists. 

Next up for the Grizzlies will be their first game in the RMAC Championship. The Grizzlies will play the 4-seed, Fort Lewis at their home in Durango, Colorado. The game will be next Tuesday, March 3rd with the game being streamed on the RMAC network. The Grizzlies will look to continue their outstanding 2025-26 season by winning their first playoff game and making it one step closer to claiming an RMAC Championship.
