Grizzlies Split Saturday Doubleheader with Regis

Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State split its Saturday doubleheader with Regis (CO), dropping a high-scoring opener before responding with a walk-off win in game two at home for the first two games of the four game RMAC series.

The day began with an offensive surge from both sides, but Regis pulled away late for a 25-10 win in the first game of the afternoon.

The Grizzlies came out swinging in game one, plating three runs in the bottom of the first. Isabel Rodriguez highlighted the inning with a two-run double after Emily Sauvageau and Kaylee Eyl reached to give Adams State an early 3-0 lead.

Regis answered immediately, scoring four runs in the second to take a 4-3 advantage. Adams State responded again in the bottom half, as Eyl delivered an RBI double and Aubree Davis followed with a run-scoring single to reclaim a 5-4 lead.

The back-and-forth continued in the third. After Regis pushed four runs across to go up 8-5, the Grizzlies cut into the deficit when Sauvageau drove in two with a double to center, making it 8-7.

Regis gradually created separation over the next few innings and broke the game open with a 10-run seventh inning. Despite finishing with 13 hits - including three from Rodriguez and two apiece from Sauvageau, Eyl and Caylie Eiguren - Adams State could not overcome the late surge dropping the contest 25-10.

The tone shifted in game two.

After a tight battle through six innings, the Grizzlies relied on pitching and timely hitting to secure a 4-2 victory in the nightcap and salvage a split on the day.

Adams State struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on pressure on the bases. Caylie Eiguren and Denae Ojeda set the table before a wild pitch and passed ball allowed both runners to score for a 2-0 lead.

Regis evened the game in the fourth, but Aryana Muñoz settled in from there. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out seven to keep the Rangers within reach.

After stranding two Regis runners in the top of the seventh, the Grizzlies carried momentum into their final at-bat.

Ali Davis sparked the rally with a leadoff single, and Aubree Davis followed with another base hit. With two outs, pinch hitter Makenzie Simon delivered the decisive blow, ripping a triple into right center that scored both runners and sealed the 4-2 walk-off win.

Adams State totaled six hits in the second game, three coming in the seventh inning alone, as the Grizzlies bounced back to close the day on a high note.
