ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Softball opened Sunday's RMAC doubleheader with competitive stretches in both contests, but Regis University used early scoring bursts and two decisive late‐inning surges to take both games at the ASU Softball Field, winning 8–1 in Game One and 12–8 in Game Two.
Regis set the tone early in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning and adding three more in the second to build a 5–0 lead. Adams State continued to put runners on base throughout the middle innings and finally broke through in the fifth when
Raegan Johnson doubled to right‐center and scored on a sharp RBI single from
Devree Godinez.
The Grizzlies collected seven hits in the game, including contributions from
Denae Ojeda,
Emily Sauvageau,
Kaylee Eyl, and
Isabel Rodriguez, but Regis added two more runs in the sixth to secure the 8–1 win.
Celie Page provided stability in relief, working five innings and allowing just three earned runs.
Game Two featured a completely different start, as Adams State erupted for four runs in the opening inning. Johnson singled to begin the rally, and after two walks loaded the bases, Rodriguez drove in the first run on a fielder's choice. Moments later, Godinez delivered the biggest swing of the day, clearing the bases with a three‐RBI double down the left‐field line to
give the Grizzlies a 4–0 advantage.
Regis responded with three runs in the fourth to tie the game, but Adams State answered immediately with a three‐run inning of its own. Ojeda singled and stole second before scoring on a base hit from
Nevaeh Garcia. Eyl added an RBI fielder's choice, and Johnson capped the inning by stealing home to push the lead to 6–3.
Regis flipped the momentum in the fifth, stringing together six runs on five hits to take the lead for good. The Rangers added three more in the sixth to extend the margin to 12–7. Adams State pushed across one final run when Johnson drew a bases‐loaded walk, but Regis' bullpen held firm over the final two innings. Johnson reached base three times and scored twice, while Godinez, Rodriguez, Garcia, and Ojeda all contributed offensively in the 12–8 final.
Adams State continues RMAC play next weekend with a road trip to MSU Denver.
