ALAMOSA, Colorado — The Grizzlies win their fourth straight game, moving their home record to 10-1 on the season and 14-7(8-5 RMAC) overall. The win comes against New Mexico Highlands, by a final score of 92-79 to continue the Grizzlies streak of great basketball.
In today's game, the story was outstanding offensive team basketball, as the Grizzlies were able to score 92 points on the night, shooting 49.2% from the floor and 35.7% from behind the 3-point line. The Grizzlies ultimately ended the night 32-65 from the floor, and 10-28 from behind the 3-point line, giving Adams State the offense to take control of tonight's game and give them the final 13-point victory. During tonight's game, the Grizzlies were also able to make 18 of their 23 free throws, giving them a final free throw percentage of 78.3% and a higher overall shooting percentage in all three major categories when compared to New Mexico Highlands. With more efficiency from the floor, 3-point land, and the free throw line, the Grizzlies were able to take control of tonight's game early and hold that lead throughout.
Leading the way offensively for the Grizzlies in tonight's game was, Jaylen Alexander, Wyatt Helming, Dillan Baker, and Jarmell Johnson. All four young men finished the night in double-figures, with Alexander and Helming leading the way with each individual finishing with 20 on the night. Following Alexander and Helming, was Baker and Johnson, who finished with 17 and 13 respectively. Between the four men, they combined for 70 of the Grizzlies 92 total points, 25 of their 32 made field goals, and 5 of their made 3-pointers. With the strong leadership of these four men the Grizzlies were able to continue their home dominance winning yet another home game here in Alamosa, Colorado.
Defensively for the Grizzlies they were able to hold New Mexico Highlands to a final field goal percentage of 41.5%, 33.3% from behind the 3-point line, and 66.7% from the free throw line. Adams State was also able to create 18 turnovers which led to 29 points off of turnovers giving the Grizzlies the jump start they needed to continue their play on the court. Leading the way defensively for the Grizzlies tonight was Dillan Baker, Luke Williams, and Jarmell Johnson. The three men all collected 2 steals on the night, creating constant pressure that was suffocating for the New Mexico Highlands offense. With this stymied defense, and great overall shooting, the Grizzlies found themselves walking away with not only their fourth straight win, but their 10th home victory on the season.
Up next for the Adams State Men's team, will be a tough matchup against Fort Lewis College, this Thursday, February 5th. The game will be yet another home game for the Grizzlies here in Alamosa, Colorado, with the game taking place at 7:30 PM MST. Thursday's game will be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to continue climbing up the RMAC conference standings, as Fort Lewis currently sits in first place with a perfect 12-0 RMAC record. The Grizzlies will look to break this perfect conference record and take not only their fifth straight victory but their 11th home win.
