Grizzlies Battle but Fall to UCCS in NCAA South Central Regional

Denton, Texas — Adams State's season came to a close Friday night as the Grizzlies fell to UCCS, 67–62, in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional inside Kitty Magee Arena. 

Facing a familiar RMAC opponent, Adams State battled throughout after a slow start. UCCS jumped out to an early advantage, taking an 18–8 lead after the first quarter. The Grizzlies responded in the second, tightening up defensively and cutting the deficit to three heading into halftime, 30–27. 

The second half remained tightly contested as both teams traded baskets. Adams State stayed within striking distance through the third quarter, trailing 45–43 entering the final period. UCCS was able to hold off the late push from the Grizzlies down the stretch to secure the 67–62 win. 

Taejhuan Hill led the Grizzlies with 16 points and seven rebounds while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Ashiian Hunter added 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers, while Elaina Watson finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. 

Nakya Blakley chipped in six points on two three-pointers and Kiiyani Anitielu added eight points and four rebounds for Adams State. 

As a team, Adams State shot 17-of-52 from the field and 5-of-17 from three while converting 23-of-28 attempts from the free throw line. The Grizzlies finished with a 37–38 rebounding margin but were hurt by 16 turnovers that resulted in 18 points for the Mountain Lions. 

UCCS was led by Amyah Moore Allen with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Jayla Jackson-Allen added 12 points. 

The loss ends Adams State's season with a 22–11 overall record after earning a berth in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship.
