Alamosa, Colo – The Adams State Men's Lacrosse team secured their first win since the 2024 season on Sunday afternoon at home. The consistent offensive pressure displayed by the Grizzlies and excellent goalkeeping by
Ryan Berger proved to be too much for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Dominican University of California.
Noah Arteaga had the first goal of the game, scoring unassisted less than three minutes into the game.
Jacob Parsons scored off a feed from
Cohen Taylor less than two minutes later. The Grizzlies never looked back from there, never relinquishing the lead for the remainder of the game.
Cole Murri and
Cohen Taylor both scored unassisted goals in the first quarter, and
Jacob Parsons found the back of the net for a second time with the help of
Malik Maxwell. The score was 5-3 heading into the second period.
Dominican fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Grizzlies 4-3. But back-to-back goals by
Tre Williams prevented them from drawing even with the Grizzlies.
Cole Murri found his second goal of the day midway through the period. The count heading into the second half was 8-7 in favor of the Grizzlies.
Adams State increased their scoring pace in the third quarter.
Jacob Parsons scored once again to open up the period, right before
Danny Joy capitalized on a man-up opportunity to bring the count to 10-7.
Malik Maxwell put one in unassisted midway through the quarter, sandwiched by two Penguin goals.
Jamal Wilson scored with 1:18 left in the period and then
Malik Maxwell won the successive faceoff to feed
Danny Joy for another man-up goal. Adams State went into the final quarter up 13-9.
The Penguins opened up the final period with two goals to bring the count to 13-11 in favor of the Grizzlies.
Cohen Taylor answered with a man-up goal midway through the period, scoring his second of the day off of an assist from
Malik Maxwell. The Grizzlies then slammed the door closed on Dominican in the final two minutes of play with
Jacob Parsons scoring his fourth goal of the day and
Tre Williams scoring his third, both unassisted.
Dominican held even with Adams State in shots on goal, with 21 a piece, but the goalkeeping of
Ryan Berger made the difference for the Grizzlies. He played the full 60 minutes and recorded 10 saves to the Penguins 5. Adams State also beat Dominican on clears, going 30-for-34.
Malik Maxwell had an impressive three assists to help drive the Adams State offense.
The Grizzlies will seek to capitalize on their momentum when they take on Northwest Nazarene University on Thursday in Nampa, Idaho.
