Grand Junction, Colo. – Adams State dropped all four games of the weekend series to Colorado Mesa, falling 14-4 and 12-8 in Saturday's doubleheader in Grand Junction.
In game one, Colorado Mesa used a nine-run second inning to take control early. The Grizzlies responded with three runs in the third and added another in the fourth behind RBI hits from Kaylee Eyl, Caylie Eiguren, and Makenzie Simon, finishing with eight hits in the contest.
The Mavericks continued to add on, including a home run from Khloe Kubitschek, to secure the run-rule win.
Game two saw Adams State come out strong, scoring one in the first and three in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Nevaeh Garcia and Kamryn Foster each drove in runs during the early surge.
Colorado Mesa answered with four runs in the third and broke things open with a five-run fourth inning.
The Grizzlies kept fighting at the plate, recording 10 hits in game two. Emily Sauvageau led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, while Ali Davis added a home run and Caylie Eiguren delivered a two-RBI single in the sixth to cut into the deficit.
Despite the offensive effort, Adams State was unable to complete the comeback as Colorado Mesa secured the doubleheader sweep and completed the four-game series sweep.
The Grizzlies will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Durango, Colo. to face off with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks for the 4 game series begninng on Saturday.
