Durango, Colo. — Adams State split Saturday's RMAC doubleheader at Fort Lewis, dropping Game 1, 5-3, before responding with an 11-2 win in Game 2 at Aspen Field.
The Grizzlies (7-25, 6-16 RMAC) showed resilience throughout the day, answering a late-game setback in the opener with one of their most complete performances of the season in the nightcap.
Adams State struck first in Game 1 behind a two-run home run from Makenzie Simon in the second inning and added another in the third on an RBI single from Aubree Davis to take a 3-0 lead.
Fort Lewis answered with two runs in the third before capitalizing on a pair of errors in the fifth to plate three runs and take the lead for good. Adams State finished with eight hits but was held scoreless over the final four innings.
Aryana Muñoz went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs (four earned) while keeping the Grizzlies within striking distance.
The Grizzlies responded quickly in Game 2, plating four runs in the first inning and never looking back.
Aubree Davis led the offensive surge, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Caylie Eiguren added three hits and two RBIs. Denae Ojeda scored three times at the top of the lineup as Adams State totaled 12 hits and 10 walks.
Adams State continued to add on with runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.
In the circle, Celie Page delivered a complete-game performance, allowing two runs on five hits while limiting Fort Lewis to just one extra-base hit.
The Grizzlies will look to carry the momentum into the final games of the series beginning at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning.
