DENVER, Colorado — In a doubleheader against MSU Denver, the Grizzlies drop both games to fall to 0-3 in the series. The Grizzlies lost game one by a final score of 6-5, and game two by a final score of 9-4. The two losses puts Adams State at a record of 10-23(5-10 RMAC).
Game 1
In game one today, MSU Denver jumped out to a quick lead scoring two runs in the first and four in the second. They scored their six runs with two home runs, an RBI single, and an RBI triple to take a quick jump on the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies showed outstanding fight though as they were able to slowly crawl back into the game scoring 3 in the third, and 2 more in the fifth to make it a 5-6 ball game. The Grizzlies scored their runs via an RBI double by Macs Carrillo, and two, two-run singles by Ayden Tauscher. The Grizzlies were also just feet away from taking an 8-6 lead in the fifth when Josh Parks flew out to the wall in left field just feet away from a go-ahead home run. Unfortunately the Grizzlies comeback fell just short as they were unable to get that final clutch hit against the MSU Denver closer who came in to collect the final six outs for the Roadrunners.
On the mound for the Grizzlies today was Osaias Hinojosa who had a bumpy start giving up the quick six runs but did an outstanding job responding by putting up four consecutive zeros after the six runs in the first two innings. Hinojosa ended up collecting a complete game finishing with a final line of 6 innings, 11 hits allowed, 6 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
On the offensive end, the Grizzlies collected seven hits, three walks, and one hit by pitch for a total of 11 base runners. Leading the way was Macs Carrillo, Ayden Tauscher, Seth Reker, and Colton Johnson. On the day, Carrillo finished 1 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI; Tauscher finished 2 for 4 with 4 RBIS; Reker finished 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored; and Johnson finished 1 for 2 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Overall the Grizzlies did an excellent job getting on base and coming up with clutch hits but again were just one or two hits short from pulling off an outstanding comeback versus one of the top teams in the RMAC.
Game 2
In game two MSU Denver again jumped out to a quick lead as they were able to score three runs in the first and one more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. MSU Denver scored their first three runs on a home run in the first and their fourth on a wild pitch, while the Grizzlies scored their one run in the first two innings on an RBI ground out by Seth Reker. After the first two innings the Grizzlies added one in the fourth on an error while MSU Denver added three. After the fourth the score was 7-2 going into the final three innings of the ball game. The Grizzlies did show some fight as Christian Altamirano hit his second home run of the season to make the score 3-7 in the fifth but MSU Denver responded right away by adding two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 9-3. In the seventh inning the Grizzlies added one more run on an error by the left fielder which moved the score to its final score of 9-4.
Individually for the Grizzlies they were led Christian Altamirano, Josh Parks, Ayden Tauscher, and Osaias Hinojosa. Also collecting a hit today was Macs Carrillo who hit a double giving him nine on the season. Outside of these five individuals the Grizzlies were unable to collect a hit in the back half of their lineup as the MSU Denver pitcher was able to do a great job in keeping a hot offense in Adams State off balance throughout today's game.
On the mound for the Grizzlies today was Jacob Janata and Connor Kerns. Janata started the game for the Grizzlies going 4 innings allowing 8 hits, 7 runs(6 earned), and collecting 2 strikeouts.
