DENVER, Colorado — In the final game of the series against MSU Denver the Grizzlies fall by a final score of 15-3. The loss drops Adams State to a record of 10-24(5-11 RMAC) going into their next series against Colorado Mesa University.
In today's game the Grizzlies were able to jump out to a quick lead in the first inning after Josh Parks hit his fifth home run of the season. The home run was a 3-run shot bringing in Macs Carrillo and Osaias Hinojosa to give the Grizzlies an early 3-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies that was the only offense they were able to muster all game whereas MSU Denver exploded after the first inning for 15 runs. Of the 15 runs, nine came in the bottom of the second inning when they took the lead for the first time. After the second inning MSU Denver continued to add on while holding the Adams State offense to nothing the rest of the game.
For the Grizzlies, Joseph Marek started the game only going 1 ⅔ innings and collecting his fourth loss of the season moving him to a record of 3-4. Overall, Marek's final line was 1 ⅔ innings, 8 hits allowed, 9 runs, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Following Marek was Ethan Bertke, CJ Pino, Connor Kerns, and Sam Hoyt. On the mound, the one bright spot for the Grizzlies was Freshman Sam Hoyt who threw for the first time all year after coming back from an injury. For Hoyt, he finished the day going 1 hitless and scoreless inning while collecting his first 2 career strikeouts. It was a truly outstanding start to a career for Hoyt who has a bright future ahead.
On the offensive side, the Grizzlies were led by Osaias Hinojosa, Josh Parks, Isaiah Pruitt, and Colton Johnson. All four individuals collected two hits on the day accounting for eight of the Grizzlies nine hits. On top of collecting eight hits the four individuals accounted for two of the Grizzlies three runs while also accounting for all three Grizzly RBIs. Leading the way was Josh Parks who finished the day 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. For Hinojosa, he finished 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored; Pruitt finished 2 for 3; and Johnson finished 2 for 3. Outside of these four individuals the only other person to collect a hit was Macs Carrillo who also scored the Grizzlies third run of the game.
For the Grizzlies, their next games will be at home this upcoming week against Colorado Mesa University with the first game coming next Thursday, April 2nd at 3 PM MST. After Thursday's game the Grizzlies will then play a doubleheader on Friday, and a final game on Saturday to wrap up the four-game series against CMU. Adams State will look to bounce back after two weekends where they played good baseball but came up just short in collecting a few wins. Come out to support the Grizzlies this upcoming week as this upcoming weekend will be one of two home series remaining in the regular season.
