Las Vegas, N.M. — Adams State split its RMAC series with New Mexico Highlands on Friday, falling 5-2 in game one before responding with a 7-6 victory in game two.
The Grizzlies showed resilience across the doubleheader, bouncing back from an early setback to finish the series on a high note.
In game one, Adams State got on the board first with a run in the third inning and added another in the sixth, but a three-run fourth inning from the Cowgirls shifted momentum. Highlands later added two more runs in the sixth to secure the 5-2 win.
Kaylee Eyl led the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance and a walk, while Brylyn Haddick recorded two hits and an RBI. Caylie Eiguren also drove in a run for the Grizzlies, who totaled seven hits but stranded nine runners.
Game two flipped the script. Adams State responded with timely hitting, using a three-run fourth inning to take control before adding three more runs in the seventh.
Aubree Davis powered the offense with a standout performance, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs while reaching base four times. Kaylee Eyl added a clutch two-RBI double, and Devree Godinez contributed an RBI as the Grizzlies capitalized on key opportunities.
Inside the circle, Aryana Muñoz made the start, while Jaklynn Harteker earned the win in relief with four innings of work and three strikeouts.
New Mexico Highlands mounted a late push with three runs in the seventh inning, but Adams State held on for the 7-6 win to secure the series split.
The Grizzlies close out the series with a split and will look to build as they return home next weekend for a four game series against Colorado School of Mines beginning Saturday.
