Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State honored the senior lacrosse players on Saturday for senior day. The Grizzlies took on Westminster University, who is receiving votes in the national coaches poll. Despite a third quarter scoring surge, Adams State was unable to hold off the Griffins and would fall 22-9.
Westminster dominated early, scoring eight goals in the first quarter with no response from the Grizzlies. The Griffins would go on to lead 14-0 until 6:18 left in the half when
Danny Joy found the back of the net with the help of
Jacob Parsons. Parsons followed up with a goal of his own, assisted by
Malik Maxwell. Maxwell had his turn with 3:02 left in the half, putting one in unassisted. The Grizzlies went into the break down 15-3.
Adams State showed some resolve in the third quarter, outscoring the Griffins 5-3.
Cohen Taylor scored early in the period as Maxwell pickup up another assist. Joy scored his second goal of the day shortly after. Taylor also found the back of the net again before Parsons ended the period with back to back unassisted scores. Parsons would go on to score his fourth goal of the day in the final quarter. But unfortunately that would be the only Grizzly goal in the fourth before the count stopped at 22-9 in favor of the Griffins.
The Griffins out shot the Grizzlies 50-34 and recorded 14 saves to Adams State's 10. The two teams were even on turnovers with 25 a piece. The Grizzlies struggled with clears, only going 23-for-32. They also only scooped up 18 ground balls. However, there were some bright spots for the Grizzlies. They held roughly even on faceoffs, winning 17 to Westminster's 18.
