Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State split Sunday's doubleheader with Colorado Mines, earning a dramatic extra-inning win in Game 1 before falling in Game 2 at home in Alamosa.
The Grizzlies opened the day with a thrilling 10-9 victory in 11 innings. Adams State came out aggressive early, scoring three runs in the first inning behind an Aubree Davis three-RBI home run in the bottom of the first. Colorado Mines answered with three runs in the second before the Grizzlies added one more in the bottom half to keep the lead.
In the back-and-forth contest, the Grizzlies maintained momentum and control throughout, consistently responding to any offense the Orediggers generated. The bats were hot for Adams State, tallying 10 hits in the game.
The Orediggers kept the pressure on and eventually took the lead late in the game, but the Grizzlies were not going down without a fight. Caylie Eiguren drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extras.
Both teams were held scoreless through the eighth, ninth and 10th innings before the Grizzlies delivered in the bottom of the 11th to secure the walk-off win. Davis, who opened the game with a home run, also ended it with a solo shot to deep center field from the leadoff spot.
Davis provided one of the biggest swings of the game with her three-RBI home run, while the Grizzlies totaled 10 runs on 10 hits. In the circle, Aryana Munoz earned the win, piecing together key outs late and shutting down Mines in extra innings through her seven innings pitched.
In Game 2, Colorado Mines responded with a 14-0 run-rule victory in five innings to earn the split on the day. The Orediggers jumped out to a fast start, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding three more across the second and third to take firm control early.
Mines continued to produce offensively, finishing with 14 runs on 22 hits, while Adams State was limited to five hits in the contest.
Colorado Mines pitcher Ellen Shull tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and one walk. The Grizzlies were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, stranding six runners on base.
Adams State ultimately dropped the series 3-1, highlighted by a resilient extra-inning performance in Game 1. The Grizzlies will travel to Lakewood, Colo., to take on Colorado Christian University starting Friday.
