Cycle by Tauscher Not Enough as Grizzlies Fall 33-17 to CSU Pueblo

ALAMOSA, Colo. — It was the kind of game where the offense showed up in a big way—but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Adams State fell 33–17 to CSU Pueblo in a wild, high-scoring slugfest on Sunday, as a massive second inning by the ThunderWolves put the Grizzlies in a hole they couldn't climb out of. The loss drops Adams State to 11-35 overall and 6-22 in RMAC play with four games remaining in the 2026 regular season.

The Grizzlies struck first, getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Josh Parks delivered an RBI triple to give Adams State an early 1-0 lead. However, that momentum quickly shifted in the top of the second, when CSU Pueblo erupted for 17 runs—an inning that ultimately defined the game.

Despite the early damage, Adams State's offense refused to back down. The Grizzlies scored in every inning except the eighth, finishing with 17 runs on 16 hits and 23 baserunners in an impressive offensive showing.

Leading the charge was Ayden Tauscher, who turned in a remarkable performance by hitting for the cycle. Tauscher went 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored, anchoring a relentless offensive effort.

Osaias Hinojosa also delivered a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs, two walks, and three runs scored. Josh Parks and Gunner Martinez each added multi-hit performances, with Parks going 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a walk, while Martinez contributed two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Additional production came from Freshman Caden Carpenter and Colton Johnson, who each recorded a double, with Johnson also drawing a walk and scoring twice.

While the offensive output was strong, CSU Pueblo's 33 runs on 25 hits and 45 baserunners proved insurmountable, as the Grizzlies were unable to fully recover from the decisive second inning.

Adams State will look to bounce back next weekend as they close out the regular season with a four-game series against Regis beginning Thursday, April 30 at 3 p.m. MST. With their postseason hopes still alive, the Grizzlies will need a strong finish to position themselves for a third consecutive RMAC Tournament appearance.
