Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State showed early fight in Game 1 but couldn't sustain the momentum across the doubleheader, falling 13-6 and 17-3 to UCCS on Friday in Alamosa.
The Grizzlies came out strong in the opener, responding to an early UCCS run with a four-run first inning. Taking advantage of an error, Adams State surged ahead behind a three-RBI double from Ali Davis to make it 4-1.
They continued to build on the lead in the second and third innings. Caylie Eiguren delivered an RBI single in the second, and Emily Sauvageau brought in another run in the third to extend the advantage to 6-1.
UCCS chipped away in the fourth before taking control in the fifth, scoring four runs to flip the game and take an 8-6 lead. The Mountain Lions added on late with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, holding Adams State scoreless over the final four innings to secure the 13-6 win.
In Game 2, UCCS carried that momentum into a fast start, scoring twice in the first and adding another run in the third. Adams State broke through in the third inning when Isabel Rodriguez tripled to drive in Denae Ojeda, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Grizzlies stayed within striking distance and made it 7-3 in the fifth. Stella Coler reached on a walk and Alexis Gonzales followed with a single to spark the inning. A passed ball brought in one run before Caylie Eiguren added an RBI single.
However, UCCS put the game out of reach in the sixth, erupting for 10 runs on nine hits to complete the sweep with a 17–3 victory.
Across the two games, Adams State was led offensively by Ali Davis' three RBIs in Game 1, while Rodriguez and Eiguren each drove in runs in Game 2. The Grizzlies totaled 14 hits on the day but were unable to slow down a UCCS offense that combined for 30 runs.
The Grizzlies will travel to N.M. Highlands next weekend to take on the Cowgirls in a four-game series beginning Saturday.
