Sophia Miera's first-half goal and another strong defensive effort lift Adams State to a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State

GOODWELL, Okla. — Adams State women's soccer continued its unbeaten start to the 2026 season Tuesday afternoon, using an early goal from Sophia Miera and another shutout performance to defeat Oklahoma Panhandle State, 1-0, at Anchor D Stadium.

The victory moved the Grizzlies to 3-0 on the season, with Adams State keeping its opponent off the scoreboard for the third consecutive match. The Grizzlies controlled the afternoon with a 22-3 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, while also earning eight corner kicks to Oklahoma Panhandle State's one. 

Adams State established control early, producing the first three shots of the match before breaking through in the 17th minute. Sophia Miera found the back of the net at 16:12, giving the Grizzlies the 1-0 advantage with what ultimately became the game-winning goal. The goal was unassisted and marked Miera's first of the season. 

The Grizzlies continued to pressure the Oklahoma Panhandle defense throughout the opening half. Lorena Vargas-Galvan put two attempts on frame, while Lauren Ocampo and Yarelis Dedos-Pino also forced saves. Adams State finished the first 45 minutes with 15 shots and four corner kicks, while preventing Oklahoma Panhandle State from recording a single shot. 

Oklahoma Panhandle State generated more pressure after halftime, but the Adams State defense protected the one-goal advantage. The Aggies did not record their first shot on goal until the 74th minute, when goalkeeper Mari Jimenez stopped an attempt from Kiana Oldham. Less than a minute later, Jimenez turned away another shot from Emma Contreras to preserve the shutout. 

Jimenez played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with two saves and no goals allowed to earn the victory and shutout. 

Adams State continued creating opportunities in the second half as Ashlynn Mustain put an attempt on goal in the 67th minute and Vargas-Galvan forced another save in the 75th. The Grizzlies ultimately kept Oklahoma Panhandle State from finding an equalizer to secure the one-goal victory. 

Vargas-Galvan paced Adams State with six shots, including three on goal, while Miera finished with two attempts and the game's lone goal. Dedos-Pino added two shots with one on frame, and Ocampo and Mustain each recorded a shot on goal. 

The Grizzlies' defense limited Oklahoma Panhandle State to just three total shots and two shots on goal over the full 90 minutes, with all three Aggie attempts coming in the second half.
