SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Adams State Women's Volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Westminster University on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Griffins 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19) at Behnken Field House. The win moves the Grizzlies to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in RMAC play.
Adams State came out strong in the opening set, recording 13 kills on 42 attacks while hitting .286 as a team. The Grizzlies battled through a competitive first set, holding off Westminster 25-23 to take an early 1-0 lead.
The second set saw Adams State continue its offensive pressure, recording 14 kills and hitting .250. The Grizzlies maintained their composure through another close set, securing a 25-22 victory to move within one set of the sweep.
Adams State saved its strongest offensive performance for the third set, posting 17 kills on 50 attacks while hitting .300. The Grizzlies pulled away from Westminster to close out the match with a 25-19 victory and complete the sweep.
Freshman Aubrey Rothermich led the Grizzlies offensively with 10 kills on 20 attacks, posting an impressive .450 hitting percentage while adding two solo blocks for a team-high 12 points. The Alamosa native proved to be a key offensive weapon for Adams State, helping lead the Grizzlies to a strong offensive performance and a convincing sweep.
Rowan Tribelhorn and Sienna Markovich each contributed eight kills, with Tribelhorn recording a team-best .583 hitting percentage on 12 attacks. Isa Folau added seven kills, while Katie Bauer and Lizzie MacIntosh each finished with five kills.
Setter Isabella DeLaRosa guided the Adams State offense with 20 assists, while Ellie Miller added 12 assists. DeLaRosa also contributed two service aces.
Defensively, Ashlyn Jones led the Grizzlies with 13 digs, followed by Markovich and Folau with 10 digs apiece. Adams State finished the match with 58 total digs and five service aces.
The Grizzlies' defense helped limit Westminster to a .165 hitting percentage throughout the three-set match. Adams State finished with 44 kills compared to Westminster's 35, while also holding the advantage in total attacks, 128-127. Overall, Adams State's consistent offensive attack and defensive effort proved too much for the Griffins to overcome.

With Saturday's win, the Grizzlies will look to keep their momentum rolling as they continue their opening RMAC roadtrip next Tuesday, September 15th against New Mexico Highlands. The match will be held at the Cowboys home in Las Vegas, New Mexico, with the match beginning at 6 p.m. MST.
