ALAMOSA, Colo. — Adams State volleyball battled Colorado School of Mines throughout all three sets Saturday night, but the Orediggers pulled away late in each frame to earn a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) inside Plachy Hall. The loss moved the Grizzlies to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play, while Mines improved to 9-3 and 2-2 in conference action.
Lizzie MacIntosh led Adams State with seven kills and four service aces while adding three blocks. Rowan Tribelhornand Sienna Markovich each finished with six kills. Tribelhorn committed no attacking errors on 17 attempts to hit .353and added four blocks, while Markovich led the Grizzlies defensively with 12 digs.
The opening set featured seven ties as neither side created much separation early. Adams State used MacIntosh's serving to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead, with the junior delivering two aces during the run. The teams continued trading points before Mines broke an 18-18 tie with five of the next six points. Tribelhorn stopped the run with a kill at 23-20, but the Orediggers answered with the final two points to take the set, 25-20.
Adams State again stayed within striking distance throughout the second. The Grizzlies took a 10-8 lead and later battled back to even the set at 15-15 behind a Tribelhorn kill and another MacIntosh ace. Isabella DeLaRosa's service ace tied the frame again at 18 before Mines closed the set on a 7-1 run for a 25-19 win.
The Grizzlies grabbed an early 5-3 advantage in the third behind kills from MacIntosh, Isa Folau and Tribelhorn. Mines responded and eventually built a 20-15 lead, but Adams State continued to fight. Markovich, Katie Bauer, Folau and Tribelhorn each contributed kills down the stretch before the Orediggers finished the match, 25-20.
At the net, Adams State finished with 12 total blocks, doubling Mines' six. Katie Bauer led the effort with five blocks, including three solo, while Tribelhorn added four. The Grizzlies also held a 6-2 advantage in service aces, with four coming from MacIntosh.
Mines finished with 46 kills and a .265 hitting percentage compared with 30 kills and a .080 percentage for Adams State. The Orediggers also recorded 48 digs to the Grizzlies' 34.
