DENVER, Colorado — The Adams State University men's soccer team fell 3-1 to MSU Denver Friday night at The Assembly Athletic Complex, dropping the Grizzlies to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1-0 in RMAC play.
MSU Denver controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Adams State 13-2 and finding the back of the net three times in the first 27 minutes. MSU Denver opened the scoring in the 12th minute to take an early 1-0 lead before they doubled their advantage in the 19th minute to move to 2-0. MSU Denver then added its third goal in the 28th minute, putting the Grizzlies in a 3-0 hole.
Adams State responded late in the opening half to cut into the deficit. In the 42nd minute, Ben Bradford found the back of the net to put the Grizzlies on the board and send Adams State into halftime trailing 3-1.
The Grizzlies came out in the second half with more pressure defensively, holding MSU Denver to six shots and no goals. Unfortunately, even with the great second half effort Adams State was unable to find another goal, leading to the MSU Denver 3-1 victory.
Bryan Amezcua played all 90 minutes in goal for the Grizzlies, recording five saves on eight shots on goal. Adams State finished the match with four total shots, including three on target. Jonathan Vazquez, Ashton De Luna and Ryan Harcrow each recorded a shot for the Grizzlies with Vazquez and De Luna's shot's being on goal. The Grizzlies fourth shot and third shot on goal of the night was Bradford's one shot which produced Adams State's lone goal of the night.
Overall on the night, MSU Denver finished with a 19-4 advantage in shots and earned seven corner kicks compared to one for Adams State.
The Grizzlies will look to regroup as they continue RMAC play this Sunday, September 27th, when Adams State travels to Lakewood, Colorado, to take on Colorado Christian University. Sunday's match is set to begin at 11 a.m. MST and will be streamed live on the RMAC Network. Adams State will look to bounce back and earn its first RMAC conference victory of the season.
