ALAMOSA, Colorado – The Adams State Women's Soccer team continued its impressive start to the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Eastern New Mexico 4-0 at the Adams State Soccer Field. The victory moves the Grizzlies to 4-0-1 overall, while Eastern New Mexico falls to 1-2-1 on the season.
Adams State controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Greyhounds 17-5 while placing 10 shots on goal. The Grizzlies also held a significant advantage in corner kicks, earning 10 compared to just two for Eastern New Mexico.
Diving into the Grizzlies scoring, they wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Lorena Vargas-Galvan gave Adams State an early advantage in the sixth minute, scoring at the 5:07 mark off an assist from Aja Lister. The 1-0 lead held through halftime before Adams State broke the match open in the second half with three additional goals.
Keira Robertson doubled the Grizzlies' advantage in the 64th minute, converting a penalty kick to make the score 2-0. Adams State then continued to apply pressure to the Eastern New Mexico defense late in the match, scoring twice in the final eight minutes to move the score to its final, 4-0. Yarelis Dedos-Pino found the back of the net in the 83rd minute making it 3-0, before Annabell Haugen added the Grizzlies' fourth and final goal in the 86th minute.
Robertson led Adams State with five shots, while Vargas-Galvan and Denali Levin each placed two shots on goal. Haugen finished with two shots and one goal, while Dedos-Pino scored on her lone shot on target.
Defensively, the Grizzlies limited Eastern New Mexico to just five total shots and three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Mari Jimenez recorded three saves and earned the shutout, helping Adams State secure its fourth victory of the season.
With the win, Adams State remains unbeaten through its first five matches of the 2026 campaign and will look to continue its strong start as the season progresses. The Grizzlies next match will be next Sunday, September 13th against Fort Lewis College. Next Sunday's match will be the Grizzlies last nonconference match before they open RMAC play on September 18th. The Grizzlies match against Fort Lewis will begin at 1 PM MST at the home of the Skyhawks in Durango, Colorado. Adams State will look to stay on a roll against Fort Lewis to keep momentum going into conference play where they can make their real mark in the 2026 season.
