Kenny Tripp enters his second year at the helm of the Adams State Men’s Basketball program in the 2024-25 season.
In Tripp’s first season, the team doubled their conference wins from the previous year; largely in part to the implementation of their fast-paced offense. The team finished the year as one of the fastest scoring teams in the country with the 16th-most fastbreak points (15.93 PPG, 430 total points), and ended the season 3rd in conference (out of 15 teams) in scoring at over 80 PPG. They were also one of the most efficient teams in the conference: shooting 47.69% from the field, which was 46th-best in the nation and 4th-best in conference. Defensively, the Grizzlies ended the season 48th in the nation (3rd in conference) in steals, averaging 8 per game.
After being hired in June of 2023, Tripp quickly put together an impressive recruiting class. This included student-athletes that graduated in the Spring of 2024 and are continuing their professional playing careers overseas: Austin Fadal (Spain), Destan Williams (Spain), and Adnan Hussein (Africa).
The Grizzlies also had two All-Conference players in the 2023-2024 season, Destan Williams and Austin Fadal. Fadal also earned RMAC Player of the Week Honors, which was the program’s first honor in over three years.
The program has elevated in the classroom as well; the team ended the year with over a 3.0 Cumulative GPA for the first time in program history.
Tripp came to Alamosa after four years as an assistant coach at the University of Idaho. In three of those seasons the Vandals improved their win total from the previous year. His primary duties included travel, academics, player development, and recruiting, where he was instrumental in bringing in Big Sky All-Conference players Isaac Jones and Divant'e Moffitt. Jones is currently playing in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings.
Tripp also played an integral role in coordinating Idaho's offense, which was ranked in the top 50 in the nation in multiple categories. As the coaching staff's direct liaison from an academic standpoint during his time at Idaho, the program reached an all-time high in terms of semester GPA and saw each player that exhausted their eligibility earn an Idaho degree.
His career has taken him all across the West. He joined Idaho after spending one season as the coordinator of operations with Washington State men’s basketball. Before that, he spent one season with Metropolitan State University of Denver as an assistant, where he worked closely with all-conference guard Cameron Williams. Prior to that, he spent two seasons with Regis University as a graduate assistant coach. In addition to being a part of the first 20-win season at Regis since the 1997-98 season.
Tripp began his career in college basketball as a student manager with the University of Nevada from 2011-15. There, he worked with current Western Colorado head coach, Zac Claus. In 2011-12, the Wolf Pack went on a 16-game winning streak, had the conference player of the year, and were Western Athletic Conference champions.
Originally from Sacramento, CA, Tripp earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Nevada in 2015, and his Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Strategic Management from Regis in 2017. He is married to men’s basketball assistant coach Alexa Hardick Tripp.
