Marquessa Gilson enters her first year as a member of the Adams State Athletic Family. Fall 2024 will be her first season as an assistant women's basketball coach.

Gilson brings a wealth of coaching experience and a strong academic background to the Adams State University women’s basketball program. A native of Utah, Marquessa played college basketball at BYU-Hawaii before transferring to Colorado Mesa University, where she gained valuable experience at the collegiate level.

Marquessa began her coaching career as an assistant at Cyprus High School (2017-2019) and then moved on to Lower Columbia College, where she helped lead the team to an NWAC championship in 2022. As the head coach at Pierce College from 2022 to 2024, she transformed the program, guiding the team to back-to-back NWAC tournament appearances and revitalizing the program’s culture.

Marquessa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Education with a minor in Coaching from Weber State University and a Masters in Business Management from Western Governors University.

Her coaching philosophy focuses on building strong relationships with her players and emphasizing their growth on and off the court. She is committed to developing future female leaders who are confident, resilient, and prepared to succeed in life.

At Adams State, Marquessa is eager to contribute to the Grizzlies’ success and mentor student-athletes in their athletic and personal development.
