Originally from Cockeysville, Maryland, Iliana Sanza joins the 2016 Adams State University Women's Lacrosse team for her first season as assistant coach to Kelsey Horton, who is also in her first year as Head Coach.Â
Sanza comes to ASU from the University of Maryland, where she was a very decorated lacrosse player. She graduated in 2013, with a degree in Family Science. Sanza, who played defense, was a member of the 2010 team that won the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships, as well as the NCAA DI Championships. She was also named to the 2011 IWLCA Women's Lacrosse Second-Team All Region list, during her sophomore year as a Terrapin.Â
During her senior year at U of M, Sanza was named to the First Team All-American list (2013), where the Terrapins won the ACC Championships, and took second at the NCAA DI Championships.Â
Not only was Sanza a force on the lacrosse field, she was very involved in the community. While at the University of Maryland, she volunteered her time at the Patterson Park Audubon Center, where she helped engage underprivileged families in nature-based education programs. She also volunteered her time at the Education Based Latino Outreach, as a Fifth Grade S.T.E.M Educator.Â
Sanza was also a member of the US National Women's Lacrosse team from 2012-2014. Currently, she is working on obtaining her Masters in Sport Management at Adams State. She is also involved in the Maximum Exposure Lacrosse Camp, and the D1 Finish Line National Lacrosse Camp.Â
