Invite Results (Oct. 24) | Relay Results (Oct. 25)LUBBOCK, Texas (October 28, 2014) – It was a successful weekend for both Adams State University swimming and diving programs at the Wayland Baptist Invite on Oct. 24 and 25. The ASU women's swimming and diving team captured both the Invite and Relays team titles while the men's swimming and diving program captured the Relays title.
Women's S&D tallied 500.5 points during the Invite competition on Oct. 24 and bested second place finisher, Wayland Baptist University, by 253 points. Their dominance continued at the Relays the following day with 280 points.
Men's S&D fell short of the team title at the Invite by a mere 8.5 points but collectively racked up 468 points. The Grizzlies went on to produce 350 points for first place at the Relays to end their weekend competition on a strong note.
InviteSophomore
Marissa Mantzey claimed a pair of individual titles in the 50 yard freestyle in 25.26 seconds and the 100 yard freestyle in 55.65 second.
Erica Norton led the field during the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:16.76 as did
Jordan Shomaker in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:23.81.
Melissa Lopez endured the 1650 yard freestyle in 18:44.46 for first place. Lopez also took home first place in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:23.18.
Alexis Divelbiss captured a pair of individual titles at the Invite with a time of 1:57.46 in the 200 yard freestyle and a time of 2:29.05 in the 200 yard breaststroke. The Grizzlies also claimed a pair of first place finishes during the 400 yard medley (4:06.49) and the 400 yard freestyle (3:44.56).
For the men,
Sam Windham swam to the only individual title during the Invite. Windham did so during the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:52.82.
Aspen Jade-Tucker ended the day with three runner-up finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.81), 500 yard freestyle (5:02.55), and as part of the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:24.22) with teammates
Derick Goodson,
Wyatt Fannin, and
Ryan Van Buren.
Senior
Benjamin Laxson also had a solid outing by finishing with silver in two events. Laxson took second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:13.00) and the 400 yard medley (3:43.85) with teammates
Clayton Denney, Goodson, and Van Buren.
RelaysOn Saturday the ASU women's swimming and diving team took first place in a total of seven events. The Grizzlies led the way in the:
               300 yard backstroke relay (3:10.13)
               200 yard freestyle relay (1:44.15)
               300 yard medley (3:15.15)
               800 yard freestyle relay(8:09.16)
               300 yard butterfly relay (3:15.35)
               200 yard medley relay (1:57.61)

Meanwhile the ASU men finished ahead of the competition in three events:

The women's swimming and diving squad now preps for a Nov. 8 dual with Colorado State University-Pueblo. Next for the men's swimming and diving team will be their home opening dual with Colorado Mesa University on Nov. 14.Â
