Grizzlies Play To 0-0 Draw Against FLC

Keeper Molly O'Connor keeps FLC off the scoreboard with 8 saves

Durango, Colo. (October 1, 2014) - After losing a heartbreaking game in their previous match against Western State Colorado University on the 28th of September, Adams State intended to start October off with a bang. While the initial result was not exactly what the Grizzlies were looking for, head coach Dorris Sullivan and her crew will take todays results in stride. The ASU women's soccer team played an away match today against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks and the result of the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

With today's results, Adams State's record on the season now stands at 1-6-2, 0-3-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. Fort Lewis' record now stands at 2-3-3, 1-1-3 in RMAC play.

The Grizzlies had many shots however few of them were actually on target. When the Grizzlies were able to have a shot on target, it was often saved by FLC goalkeeper Caitlyn Espinosa who had a strong showing today for the Skyhawks with three saves. The Grizzlies had 14 shots  compared to the Skyhawks' 23.  The Grizzlies best opportunity to score perhaps lied in the opening minutes of the game, when Alex Sanderson had a clean attempt to score but her shot was blocked by Espinosa.

The player of today's match without question goes to ASU goalkeeper Molly O'Connor. Of the 23 total shots the Skyhawks had, O'Connor saved 8 of them from entering the back of the net. In the 110:00 minutes played in the match, O'Conner finished with a clean sheet for the Grizzlies.

Adams State will look to build of today's draw in order to prepare for a tough matchup against fellow RMAC member, the Colorado School of Mines.  Mines currently boast an RMAC best record of 7-0-1 while being 4-0 in RMAC play. The game will be played in Golden, Colorado on October 5th at 12 p.m.
