Grizzlies Fend Off FLC In Five Set Win

Volleyball has now won their last three RMAC matches

DURANGO, Colo. (October 18. 2014) -- The Adams State University Grizzlies women's volleyball team won last night in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks by match score of 3-2.

With the win, Adams State has now won three straight conference games and will look for a fourth in their bout tonight with the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks.

With Friday night's victory Adams State improves to 11-8 on the season, 6-5 in RMAC play. Fort Lewis on the other hand falls to 5-15, 1-10 in RMAC contests.

Despite winning the first two sets, the Grizzlies were troubled by a stingy Skyhawk squad who refused to go away. The Skyhawks won sets three and four to push the match to a fifth. In set five, the Grizzlies took over and were able to silence the comeback and come away with the victory. The Grizzlies won via set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 19-25, and 15-13.

Offensively, this was one of the better displays of Grizzly talent all season. Four Grizzlies had marks of double digit kills. Outside hitter Lindsey Stindt led the team with 17 kills, one ace, and five blocks.  Nina Mody-Bailey had 13 kills on the night for the Grizzlies while Mallory Grimsrud and Leah Nelson each had 10 kills, respectively. Both Stindt and Grimsrud were a defensive force at the net, each having 5 blocks each. As a team the Skyhawks had 10 blocks in comparison. Katelyn Schwartz had a season high 50 assists in the contest while her fellow classmate Gabrielle Timmen had 19 digs.

The Grizzlies will face off against the Colorado Mesa University tonight in Grand Junction, Colo. at 7 p.m.
