Men's Soccer On Wrong End Of 4-1 Match With FLC

Grizzlies now 1-7, 0-5 RMAC

DURANGO, Colo. (October 3, 2014) – A string of early goals by the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks proved to be too much for the Adams State University Grizzlies men's soccer team on Friday afternoon. FLC netted four goals within the opening 22 minutes of play en route to a 4-1 win.

It marks the seventh consecutive loss for the Grizzlies who now stand at 1-7 overall and 0-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. The Skyhawks improve to 6-3, 4-1 RMAC and are now tied for second place in the conference.

It was a nearly flawless start by FLC as their first four shots all made it past ASU keeper Austin Baumeister. The Skyhawks' Yannis Becker broke the scoreless affair at 4:36 with his fifth goal of the season which was assisted by Cesar Castillo. It was then Castillo's turn to score at 12:13, making it 2-0. The theme continued as Castillo provided his second assist of the match at 17:47 to help teammate Tamino Kroeger score for a 3-0 advantage. The FLC offensive firepower was capped off just minutes later by Aaron Kloer as his shot found the back of the net from 25 yards out. Kloer's first goal of the season was assisted by Becker.

After only one shot in the first half, ASU amassed six after halftime. The reemergence of offense played to their benefit in the 67th minute. While maintaining possession, ASU benefitted from a FLC header that went past keeper Ryan Schaul for an own goal.

The Grizzlies nearly tacked on another goal at 71:16 but Symon Fabbricatore's shot hit off the post.

Baumeister collected five saves in defeat as Benjamin Gibble, Erik Henrickson, and Bernard Tume each recorded a shot on goal.

Next for Adams State is an Oct. 5 meeting with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions. That RMAC tilt is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.
