Grizzlies Sweep Cowgirls On Friday Afternoon

ASU snaps four game losing streak. Set to play WNMU on Saturday night

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (October 3, 2014) – An extended first set win propelled the Adams State University Grizzlies volleyball team to a sweep over the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls on Friday afternoon.

ASU claimed their fifth sweep of the season via set scores of 31-29, 25-19, 25-20 and in the process snapped a four match skid. The Grizzlies improve to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. The Cowgirls fall to 6-11, 2-6 RMAC with the loss.

After a pair of rallies by the Cowgirls midway through the first set, Adams State burned two timeouts. The latter of which came with ASU trailing 20-17. The break in action helped the Grizzlies edge back into the set which was capped off by a block from Mallory Grimsrud and Katelyn Schwartz to give ASU the 31-29 win.

The Grizzlies were led by junior Lindsey Stindt who finished with a match-high 14 kills along with six digs and three blocks. Setter Katelyn Schwartz tallied 39 assists and 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Alex Parker recorded nine kills while hitting .538 along with five blocks. Grimsrud was also efficient at the net with nine kills and hit .381.

For the match, ASU hit .324—their second highest match percentage of the season (.381 vs. UAF, 9/12).

The Grizzlies continue play tomorrow against Western New Mexico University. That match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Silver City, N.M.
