#9 CMU Mavericks Send Grizzlies To 3-1 Match Defeat

ASU back in action on Saturday at 7pm for Parent Night and Senior Night

ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 7, 2014) —The Adams State University Grizzlies women's volleyball team lost tonight in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tilt at home against the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in four sets. Adams State's record now drops to 14-12 overall and 8-9 in RMAC contests. Colorado Mesa on the contrary improves their season record to 24-3, 17-1 in RMAC bouts.

The Grizzlies lost via set scores of 18-25, 15-25, 25-21, and 14-25.

CMU came into tonight's game riding a 15 game win streak. They had previously beaten ASU in their October 18th meeting with a 3-0 match decision. The Grizzlies, who had gone 3-2 since their previous battle with the Mavericks, were in need of a win to improve their seeding in the upcoming RMAC Tournament. Currently Adams State is positioned as the seventh seed with tomorrow's match against Fort Lewis College proving to be pivotal for the Grizzlies ambitions to remain in the tournament bracket.

The Grizzlies were unable to find an answer to the offensive combination of Audrey Steinkirchner and Melissa Hess. Together the duo proved to be effective with 23 combined kills and constantly pressed the defensive group of the Grizzlies.

One player who was able to respond to the attacks of Hess and Steinkirchner, was middle blocker Mallory Grimsrud who had a strong statistical showing for the Grizzlies. On the night, Grimsrud had eight kills along with six blocks and proved to be valuable asset for ASU.  Lindsey Stindt led the team with 12 kills (.105) while Nina Mody-Bailey totaled 11 kills (.304) with four blocks.  Allie Miller led the team with 18 assists, filling in for the injured Katelyn Schwartz who left early in the second match with an apparent knee injury. Gabrielle Timmen led the team with 17 digs.

Adams State University will play host to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks tomorrow at Plachy Hall for a scheduled 7:00 p.m. start. It marks the final home match for the Grizzlies and will serve as both Parent Night and Senior Night.
