MBB | ASU Unable To Tame Mountain Lions On Saturday Night

Grizzlies still looking for first RMAC win after 99-82 loss

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 6, 2014) – By shooting 55 percent (30-54) from the field and connecting on 31-of-37 free throws, the No. 8 University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions were too much for the Adams State University men's basketball team on Saturday night from the Gallogly Events Center. Hot shooting from UCCS translated into a 99-82 defeat for the Grizzlies.

Adams State now stands at 3-2 overall and 0-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) games. The Mountain Lions remain perfect on the year at 8-0, 2-0 RMAC.

The Mountain Lions' Derrick White concluded the night with a game-high 29 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists and was a perfect 17-17 from the charity stripe. The Grizzlies countered with 18 points from Shakir Smith and 14 points apiece from Michael Middlebrooks and Juwan Buchanan.

ASU possessed their largest lead of five at 23-18 after Justin Kauffman drained a three-pointer with 9:28 left in the first half. The Grizzly lead was soon cut, then disappeared a few minutes later. After that, UCCS went on an 18-6 run in the final 6:34 for a 47-35 halftime advantage.

UCCS remained in control after the break and extended their lead in the closing minutes of the game with free throws.

Adding to the Mountain Lions' night the team shot 50 percent (8-16) from beyond the arc. The Grizzlies shot 38 percent (24-62) from the field, 33 percent (9-27) from three, and 71 percent (25-35) from the free throw line.

Next for the Grizzlies is a Dec. 9th exhibition game with Boise State University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. from the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. A free video stream along with live stats and KSPK audio will be made available.
