ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 9, 2015) – Fans at Plachy Hall were treated to a convincing conference win on Friday night as Adams State University handed Western New Mexico University a 99-64 defeat. All 13 players on the active roster scored for the Grizzlies with each individual logging no less than eight minutes of action. ASU was paced by starters
Shakir Smith and
Michael Middlebrooks who collected 16 and 10 points, respectively.
The 35 point win is the second largest margin of victory for Adams State this season (43 point margin vs. Northern New Mexico College on 11/25/14).
The Grizzly lead surpassed 20 points late in the opening stanza which ushered in more prominent roles for ASU reserves after halftime.
Bryan Umoru,
Mikey Hope, and
Mike Hemsley led the way with 14, 13, and 11 points, respectively, off the bench. In total, the Grizzlies posted a season-best 60 bench points in the win while the Mustangs gathered a mere 12 points from their reserves.
The lead grew to 30 by the midway point of the second half and expanded to 38 in the closing minutes of play.
With the win Adams State moves to 7-4, 4-4 RMAC and currently hold a three game winning streak entering tomorrow night's affair with New Mexico Highlands University.
