ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 2, 2015) – Friday afternoon's high winds stirred up the autumn leaves and emotions during a physical game between RMAC rivals Colorado Mesa University (6-2-1, 3-1 RMAC) and Adams State University (1-7, 1-3 RMAC) from the ASU Soccer Field.
In a mostly defensive match with 7 combined shots on goal, Colorado Mesa found the edge in a penalty kick from Trentin Atkin that found the back of the net making it 1-0. The score wouldn't change for the rest of the 68 minutes of play time.
ASU goalkeeper
Austin Baumeister registered five saves; only allowing the game winner past him. On offense, ASU's lone shot on goal was a 60 yard prayer off the foot of
Matthew Jackson that looked like it might have had a chance before CMU keeper Briley Guarneri stomached it.
In the midst of a four game skid the Grizzlies have generated few scoring chances with a meager 6 shots on goal (SOG). In the four games prior ASU averaged 6.25 SOG. In contrast they've mustered 1.5 SOG in their last four. ASU's 3 goals and only win came in those first four matches.
Adams State University will face the Westminster College Griffins (1-6, 0-5 RMAC) in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday. WC has yet to record their first RMAC victory and haven't won since early September.
Adams State and Westminster will face off on Dumke Field at 2:30pm. Follow along with live stats provided by www.asugrizzlies.com.
