Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (October 30, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team traveled to Grand Junction to take on the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match up earlier today. Unfortunately the Grizzlies weren't able to get past an early Mountaineer goal, as they dropped the match 1-0.
Dezirae Armijo would fire off the first shot of the game, but would be denied by WSCU's goalkeeper Meghan Jedrzejewski.
Molly O'Connor would also get her first save of the game off of a shot by Sadie Stark.
Both Adams State and Western would incur penalties, but neither team would capitalize. Just 24:37 into the game, the Mountaineers would draw the first blood of the match with a goal by Ingrid Alvarez. This would give Western an early 1-0 lead over the Grizzlies.
The rest of the first period would be a back and forth battle between the two teams, but the Mountaineers would maintain their one goal lead going into the half.
In the first, Adams State tallied nine shots, with O'Connor making three saves off of nine WSCU shots.
Adams State started off the second period with a corner kick that was taken by Armijo, with Armijo taking the shot. Unfortunately, her shot would be blocked.
Abbey Rasmussen would get the rebound, but her shot would be saved by Jedrzejewski.
Madison Furbush would then try and tie the game up with her shot in the 61
st minute, but her shot would be blocked. Furbush would then get a header opportunity, but would be blocked again.
Arin Seidlitz would take the Grizzlies' last shot, but her shot would be saved. Western would get the last shot, but O'Connor would deny it. This would end the game.
Overall, Adams State would tally thirteen shots, with five finding the net. O'Connor would end up with six saves on the day. Leading the shots for the Grizzlies was Armijo who tallied four shots, with both Seidlitz, Furbush, and
Alejandra Chavez tallying two, Rasmussen,
Natalie Wheelock, and
Courtney Miknis each taking one.
Adams State takes to the pitch for their final game of the 2015 season on November 1st, when they travel to Colorado Springs to take on the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions. The game is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
