PUEBLO, Colo. (December 19th, 2015)—In their final game of 2015, the Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team traveled to Pueblo to face off against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rivals, the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves. Despite taking an early lead, the Grizzlies were unable to fend off a ThunderWolve surge in the third quarter of play that led to a 71-56 loss for Adams State.
"We played well tonight but the last five minutes got away from us. I feel we are continuing to get better." Head coach

The Grizzlies were led by the duo of
Lena Jaycox and
Cydney McHenry, who cashed in thirty-one points between them. Jaycox, who tallied a career high of 28 points last night against the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers, scored 19 points in Saturday's match-up. McHenry tallied 12 points against CSUP.
The first half saw Adams State take a 33-26 lead going into halftime. McHenry got things started with a three-pointer, off of an assist by Jaycox. At the end of the first quarter, the Grizzlies had a 21-9 lead.
To start the second quarter of play,
Nicole Broyles would chip in for two points to give the Grizzlies a 23- lead over Pueblo. This would give the Green and White a commanding fourteen point lead. However, the end of the first half would see a back and forth battle between the teams, with Adams State heading into halftime with a seven-point lead.
To start the third quarter, Pueblo would tally four unanswered points to bring the score to 33-30 early into the quarter. Not to be outdone, the Grizzlies saw five points between Broyles and Jaycox to open the lead back up to eight points. In the dying seconds of the quarter, the ThunderWolves managed to get things rolling, as they closed the gap to a one-point game at 50-49 in favor of Adams State.
The final stanza of the game saw CSUP take their first lead early into the quarter, as they took a 51-50 lead over the Grizzlies. From there, the ThunderWolves scored six unanswered points to take their largest lead of the game at 59-50.
Lauren McDonald stopped the streak by netting a free throw to cut the lead down to an eight-point game. However it wouldn't be enough, as CSUP managed to tack on eleven more points to end the game.
From the field, Adams State was 30% overall. In terms of three-pointers, the Grizzlies were 36%, but were 78.6% in free throws.
Amber Tso tallied eight points,
DeShea Wilkes tallied five, Broyles ended the night with four points, Maddy Merschel earned three,
Johnette Brown and
Arianna Barnes each scored two, and McDonald netted one.
Play resumes for the Grizzlies in the New Year, as they host Metropolitan State University of Denver on January 1
st, 2016, and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on January 2
nd. Both games are slated to begin at 5:00pm in Plachy Hall.
