ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 11, 2015) – Adams State University welcomed Fort Hays State University on Wednesday night for the program's last home dual of the season. The home finale did not go as planned for ASU as Fort Hays handed the Grizzlies a 36-17 loss.
The night began at the 157 weight division as
Jacob Deaguero matched up with Bradley Little. A busy opening period by Little gave the Fort Hays grappler a 6-1 advantage. After a Deaguero escape point in the second period, the junior found himself victim to a double leg takedown as Little earned the six pin points for the Tigers.
Responding to the loss was senior
Justin Samora who asserted his seniority with a colossal win of the night at 165. Facing FHSU's Kregg Clarke, Samora wasted little time as he gained quick ground less than a minute into the contest. The Grizzly grappler earned a fast two point takedown followed by three near falls. The repetitive scoring from Samora shortened the match via a spotless 15-0 tech fall at 3:53.
Classmate
Mark Mabry, Jr. followed suit at 174 with an even shorter bout against Jace Nordyke. Mabry didn't need much time as he pinned Nordyke at 1:59 which came after an early two point takedown.
At 184, Jon Inman of Fort Hays handed
Mario Garcia a 15-5 major decision defeat. Garcia was only able to gather escape points as Inman countered with four takedowns and a pair of near falls en route to the win.
At 197
Amer Tipura fell short against Cash Drylie by a 6-2 decision. Drylie grabbed an early takedown in a ground battle with Tipura escaping late in the first period. However, Drylie earned an immediate takedown in response as the period ended. After a calm second, Tipura was unable to mount a comeback in the third. Tipura was only able to pick up an escape point as Drylie concluded the bout with another point added on via riding time.
It was a difficult outing for
Austin Andrade at 285 who suffered a 17-1 tech fall to Jack Page who accomplished his win at the 2:52 mark.
ASU's
Jerry Huff was inactive for the night therefore the Grizzlies forfeited at 125. ASU also forfeited the 133 weight class. Fort Hays retorted with a forfeit at 141.
With the regular season now over, ASU shifts their focus to the RMAC Championships on Feb. 27-28. The championship event will be hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo.
