ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 26, 2015) – The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball teams takes on the last two games of their season on the road this coming weekend as they take on the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (Feb. 27) and the Western State University Mountaineers (Feb. 28) Both bouts are slated for 5:30 pm tip offs, with live stats available for both games.
Last Time OutThe Grizzlies made an astounding 86-84 comeback with a freshman playing heroine for the Grizzlies last weekend against the Metro State University of Denver Roadrunners. J'nae Squires- Horton made a three-point basket to secure the two point win in the last two seconds of the game. Squires- Horton was the leading scorer for ASU with a career- best 29 points, and a .59 shot percentage. To end the game, the Grizzlies went on a 14-5 run that saw
Desiree Anderson,
Sabra Ross, and
Lena Jaycox chip in to help Adams State secure the win. Jaycox had nine assists on the night. On the night, the Grizzlies had a 38.6% shot conversion (32-83), and the visiting Roadrunners had 44.6% (25-56) shot conversion.
Meet the MavericksThe last time Adams State and Colorado Mesa met each other was in Alamosa, on December 21
st, 2014. Despite taking a 33-31 lead in the first half, the Grizzlies fell to the Mavericks 75-58. Offensively, ASU was lead by
Desiree Anderson and
Emilie Klint. Anderson ended the night with a team- leading 15 points, while Klint scored 7 points. The Mavericks ended the night with a 60% shot conversion compared to the Grizzlies' 35.2%. The leading scorers for CMU were Shanna Halalilo, Leanndra Gilbert, and Erin Reichle.
Currently the Mavericks are 20-4 overall, and 17-3 in conference games. Sophomore Erin Reichle is the leading scorer for the Mavericks, averaging 18.1 points a game. Since their last game against Adams State, CMU has only lost two games and is currently on a five game winning streak.
Meet the MountaineersThe last time Western State and Adams State met each other was in Alamosa on December 20
th, 2014, where the Grizzlies took advantage of playing at home and won 77-72. This game was the first win of the season for ASU, and head coach
Larry Joe Hunt's first collegiate victory. This contest was close, as there were four lead changes throughout. The leading scorer for the Grizzlies was
Lena Jaycox who was a nightmare offensively and defensively, as she contributed 16 points and four steals. The leading scorer for the Mountaineers was senior Jade McIntosh, who contributed 23 points. Fellow teammates Stephanie Williams, Sydnie Lengyel, and Taylor Long contributed 13 points, 11 points, and 10 points respectively.
Currently the Mountaineers are 4-20 over all, and 3-17 in conference games. Jade McIntosh is the leading scorer, averaging 12.4 points a game. Since their last bout with ASU, Western State has only seen one win. That win came against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on January 2
nd.
