ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 14, 2015) – Adams State University suffered a pair of defeats to Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action. The Grizzlies fell 4-2 in game one and later a 13-1 defeat in game two. The Grizzlies now stand at 6-11 overall and 3-4 in RMAC contests.
The series concludes tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. from the ASU Baseball Field.
Game OneAfter a run from CSU-Pueblo in the top of the third the Grizzlies countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Jake Montoya led off with a double down the left field line and quickly advanced to third after a balk.
Chris Morley brought Montoya across home plate with a ground out to tie the game at 1-1.
The ThunderWolves produced the game-winning run in the fifth courtesy of a two RBI single up the middle by Austin Mascorro. Adams State picked up their second and final run of the game in the sixth but CSU-Pueblo added an insurance run in the seventh.
Pitcher
J.D. Heredia moves to 2-3 after 5.2 innings on the mound while CSU-Pueblo's Kolby Rimer improves to 2-0 with the win.
Game TwoIn the 13-1 loss, the Adams State bats were kept silent as CSU-Pueblo's starting pitcher Vitor Soto maintained a no-hitter through four innings. The Grizzlies notched their first hit in the fifth thanks to a Jaren Dorchinez single. The absence of offensive only applied to ASU as the ThunderWolves built a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning. The lead continued to expand as CSU-Puebo scored in all but one inning. Jake Gonzalez provided the lone source of run production with a sixth inning home run to right field.
Soto produced a final box score line of three hits and one run in six innings of work.
Andrew MacMahon struggled through three innings and moves to 0-3.
