ALAMOSA, Colo. (March 15, 2015) – It was a frustrating day for Adams State University on Sunday during the series finale against Colorado State University-Pueblo. Despite collecting nine hits the Grizzlies were unable to bring more than one run across home plate.
In the 4-1 loss, Adams State stranded 11 runners opposed to five for CSU-Pueblo. The loss moves ASU to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) games. The ThunderWolves complete the series sweep and improve to 17-3, 9-1 RMAC.
Scoring began in the second inning for CSU-Pueblo as Lawrence Chavez sent
Tanner Wiemers' pitch down the left field line for a double to score Manny Menocal. An inning later the ThunderWolves picked up another run aided by a pair of outfield errors by the Grizzlies. In the bottom of the third
Zach Moldenhauer picked up an RBI single to score Jack Montoya who began the frame with a single of his own up the middle.
Two more CSU-Pueblo runs came across home plate in the fifth which capped off the offensive production for both squads.
After Weimers exited in the fifth,
Ryan Richardson came on in relief. The senior lefty was solid in his Sunday outing by pitching five frames, allowing only one hit. Richardson struck out two batters and forced a season-high eight ground outs.
Moldenhauer tallied a season-high three hits and the team's only RBI of the day.
Next for ASU is a March 17 non-conference home game with Oklahoma Panhandle State University. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
