ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 10, 2015) – The Adams State University women's lacrosse team appeared under the lights of Rex Field on Friday night for a non-conference matchup against Westminster College (Utah). Unfortunately, the change in scenery did not result in a win for the Grizzlies who were trumped by the Griffins, 18-6.
Adams State drops to 0-10 overall in defeat as Westminster improves to 8-2.
Sophomore
Kendra Cheda paced the Grizzlies with three goals in the loss to firmly maintain her team-high 21 goals on the season. Cheda also provided the lone assist for ASU in the game.
Cheda's efforts were shadowed by the play of Westminster's Maggie HerrNeckar who tallied a game-high five goals on nine shots. Teammates Katie Adams, Maddie Haynes, and Kira Heiden also supplied their fair share of offense with three goals apiece.
The Griffins jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of action before the Grizzlies found the scoreboard for a pair of goals. Jumpstarting the Grizzlies were
Qiana Barfield and
Samantha Hammer who found the back of the net to push ASU closer at 5-2. That was as close as it got as Westminster outscored ASU, 5-1, going forward before halftime.
After the break, Cheda notched a pair of goals to highlight ASU's efforts but Westminster continued to expand their lead.
Goalie
Danica Kristiansen picked up the loss for the Grizzlies and ended her evening with eight saves.
Next for Adams State is their home finale against Colorado State University-Pueblo on April 17 at 3:00p.m. The game will precede the football spring game on Rex Field.
