The two teams return to the diamond tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Game OneIt boiled down to a back-and-forth extra innings battle between ASU and Regis as a
Dillon Bollig RBI single in the 11
th made the difference for an 8-7 win.
The game reached extras as Regis produced a two-run bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 6-6. In the top of the tenth, it appeared all but over as
Jaron Dorchinez lifted the Grizzlies to a 7-6 lead with a solo shot to right field. The elation was short-lived as the Rangers responded with a run of their own after a Dorchinez throwing error. The dramatics set up Bollig for his game-winning RBI as reliever
Dylan Sherry made quick work of the Rangers in the bottom of the frame to end the game.
The series opener served as another comeback win for the boys in Green and White as the Rangers obtained a 2-0 lead in the third. The Grizzlies flipped the script with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. The offensive burst positioned ASU with a 6-4 lead until the Rangers tied it at 6-6 in the ninth.
Despite the late inning error, Dorchinez made up for it at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance along with two RBI's and two runs. Morley went 3-for-6 with a run scored as
Dillon Granzella went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Bollig led the Grizzlies with three RBI's and a 2-for-5 finish at the dish.
Sherry (1-2) registered the win with 2.1 innings of work as the sophomore allowed one run on two hits.
Game TwoA 5-for-5 and three RBI outing by Morley along with a four-run second inning supplied a bulk of the fuel needed in a 9-6 win. Morley began the scoring in the second with an RBI single to leftfield that set off a series of four consecutive scoring plays for ASU. All four runs came with two outs and were aided by three Regis defensive errors.
With three runs in the bottom of the second and a two-run third inning, Regis took a slim 5-4 lead until the Adams State bats came alive late in the game.
Dorchinez supplied an RBI double in the fifth to score Bollig who reached base after being hit by a pitch and quickly advanced to second on a passed ball. Now tied, 5-5,
Drew Wells followed to give ASU the lead with an RBI single to bring Dorchinez across home plate.
Tyler Thurston sent Morley in to score with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 7-5 as Morley capped off his big day with a two RBI double in the seventh to give the Grizzlies a 9-6 cushion.
