PUEBLO, Colo. (May 2, 2015) – Adams State University added a pair of losses on Saturday against Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Grizzlies fell 13-3 in game one and wrapped up their regular season with an 8-3 defeat.
ASU completes their 2015 regular season slate with a 20-28 overall record and a 16-19 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tilts.
Game 1It was a slow start as the Grizzlies were held hitless through three frames. The rather dismal affair was briefly interrupted in the fourth as
Jerid Huggins drove in
Tyler Thurston with an RBI single to center field. After the run, ASU continued to struggle against CSU-Pueblo pitcher Thomas Bevington who allowed one run on three hits in six innings of work.
Meanwhile, Adams State utilized five pitchers as starter
J.D. Heredia lasted four innings before head coach
Jim Capra turned to the bullpen. The change in personnel appeared to have little effect on the CSU-Pueblo bats as the ThunderWolves tallied a two-run fifth, a five-run sixth, and a two-run eighth.
Thurston and
Jacob Heaton each produced an RBI double in the eighth to round out ASU's offense.
With the loss Heredia moves to 4-5 on the season as he allowed four runs on five hits. At the plate Huggins led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and one RBI.
Game 2With a Huggins two RBI double in the top of the first, ASU jumped to an early 2-0 lead. However, the lead vanished in the middle innings as CSU-Pueblo notched a three-run third, a two-run fourth, and a two-run fifth. The surge left ASU in an 8-3 deficit that ultimately served as the final score.
Marco Garmendia accounted for an RBI double in the fourth to wrap up ASU's offensive production.
Bailey Garcia was given the starting nod in the regular season finale and picked up the loss with 3.1 innings on the mound. Garcia allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out one batter. Huggins once again led the Grizzlies at the plate with two RBI's and a 2-for-3 performance.
The Grizzlies continue their season next week at the RMAC Tournament hosted by Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. Stay connected with
